“My God,” I said to Jessamyn, “that’s a moose!”
Yes, it took a year, but I finally saw a moose. I saw two, actually, last night around dusk, as we were stepping out onto the back porch. They loped slowly across the back field, about 50 feet from us. And once we figured out that they weren’t bears, we all stood and watched them walk, listenened to them snort intermittently, until they disappeared in the darkness.
Finally seeing a moose is great news, since I no longer think that they are mythological beasts, perpetuated by the collective imagination of rural communities and made more real with the use of Photoshop. I guess maybe I should start thinking about being less skeptical.
