Post-Mortem :: July 7th, 2003 ::

Some stats on the party, which may be inaccurate: Three days in duration; fifteen guests (total, not all at once); an unreasonable number of cars; one extra inch of grease and sludge in the grill; one patched hole in the deck.

Though I feel many things occurred over the weekend, I don’t feel particularly tired today.

The couches were neither hacked apart nor burned, so I suppose our advertising for the party was slightly disengenuous. However, no one seemed too let down. (And I send apologies to those who were—you hid your disappointment well.) Overall it was a fun time, though I think of the possibility of hanging out and watching movies or reading a book I feel more than slightly excited.

Today I’m at work. While others in the office seem slow to catch up with the stress level of the office, I’ve felt comfortable jumping right into it. Helping manage projects and talking with new friends and making sure everyone is fed, all the while managing my own sun exposure and hydration makes the work I do in the office feel easy. Which makes me wonder: does the value many in Western society put on the “restful holiday weekend” actually make professional life harder?

Oh yes, and just so you know: we saw no fireworks whatsoever this weekend.
