What Will We Look Like? :: May 3rd, 2002 ::

Just yesterday was the 75th anniversary of the Buck v. Bell Supreme Court decision, which upheld the practice of sterilizing people deemed “feeble-minded.” On that day, the Governor of Virginia apologized for his state’s embrace of the practice of eugenics, which was deemed legal under the law. These sterilizations, which affected the lives of thousands of people and left them emotionally scarred, is criminal. And the fact that the Federal government said it was Constitutionally OK makes my stomach clench. If we live for a thousand years, I can only hope that this will look truly ugly for this practice.
